We all know the importance of a website when it comes to business online strategy. All businesses are it B2B, B2C, nonprofits, local or global the need for a full service online registered domain is a must. A company’s website acts as its virtual storefront which needs to be active enough to attract visitors, educate them and convince them to buy.
Web 2.0
The web is interactive and social in nature. It is no longer static. The increasing number of ‘likes’ for the info graphics makes it almost impossible for a website to survive as an island. Integration and dynamism are two new vital elements of a website. Web 2.0 considers integrating search, content, blogging, and social media obtain the best results for the ad campaigns. These days’ people rate a product based on its usability and features/ benefits. Flash graphics no longer boost traffic. The best thing about web 2.0 is that is completely tailor made for its consumers!
The changing buyer behavior
The main reason for the shift is largely because consumers are facing a paucity of spendable time on junk. They are consuming information when they want and in the form they want. They want to be educated and not sold to. Apparently, the role of a website is similar to that of a good salesman who offers products after good understanding of the need of the consumers.
Steps to a better website
A good website must not overload information at a time. It must be navigation friendly with meaningful content and of course eye soothing! Inbound and outbound marketing is what is being mostly used nowadays. Inbound marketing is marketing focussed on getting found by customers. It has three key elements- content, search engine optimisation and social media.
After generating good traffic by getting found online, it is important to make people stay on the website. Most websites have a bounce rate of 30-60% on an average. To lower this rate, one needs to target improving the overall experience of a visitor.
The first impression of the website must be pleasing! Too many colors can often be the source of distraction and irritation. Researchers have found the success of Facebook to be its color template. The basic web page only uses two basic colors, blue and white. Reset colors are added by the user and can be removed if needed. Also the first look through the pages must make a user feel welcome, safe and enjoyable. Too much of clutter and information are a strict no! Basic web pages devoid of flash animations seem to attract and engage more users and reduces bounce rate. A clear navigation structure in a grid layout works well. The typography needs to be legible with bullet pointers, section headers and short paragraphs.
We never get second chances to make the first impression! So the design is of utmost importance. A well designed website might convince a visitor to take a look closer to the product or service being made available by the company.
